Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: Education Week 2011
Tuesday 14 June through Saturday 18 June 2011
ABODA members are strongly encouraged to attend the 2011 MSO Education Week events. Notably, the MSO recently supported Benjamin Northey's appearance at an
engaging Conducting Seminar and Masterclass on Wednesday 8 June. ABODA Life Member and MSO Education Advisory Committee Member Roland Yeung has recently drawn attention to Education Week by distributing the week's program and offerings for educators.
The complete Education Week virtual program is available online from the MSO website (requires Flash), but individual events may also be viewed as part of the regular MSO calendar.
Entry costs for the week are better-than-reasonable. The week's daytime events attract as little as $8 per head for parents and students, and teacher admission is free in some cases. The MSO Education Office may answer inquiries regarding school and educational group attendances.
Education Week performances include standard repertoire and commentary by Richard Gill and others, interviews and discussions amongst players and performers, music for the very young from Justine Clarke, and opportunities for students to bring along their instruments to play with the orchestra.
The MSO is recently focusing on secondary education, and some of the Education Week shows this renewal. In particular, the MSO is creating and seeking programs that engage students between years 7-10. The MSO Education Office will be interested to receive feedback and commentary addressing on these events and other educational programs focused on this age group.
