The American Bandmasters Association was founded in 1929 with John Philip Sousa as Honorary Life President. The ABA recognizes outstanding achievement on the part of Concert Band conductors and composers. In 2010, membership (by invitation only) was approximately 300 band conductors and composers in the USA and Canada, plus 70 Associate Members - music businesses and corporations that provide significant services to bands and to the publication of band music.

The National Band Assocation (NBA) proclaims itself as the largest band association in the world. Founded in 1960, the association includes American and international band directors, and emphasizes the importance of bands, music education, and high standards in both areas.
National Band Council of Australia
The National Band Council of Australia (NBCA) dedicates itself to promoting and supporting brass and concert bands in Australia. Their work focuses on the regulation and administration of ensemble contests, and on the promotion of good administration and directing practices.
