For its 29th year, ABODA Victoria is proud to announce that registrations are open for Summer School 2016! In the coming year, the School returns to Ivanhoe Grammar across the week of 17-23 January.
In 2016, the Summer Conducting School welcomes Dr Rob McWilliams, founding conductor of the Wisconsin Symphonic Winds (USA) and past Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (USA). Across nearly twenty years with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Dr McWilliams conducted the University Wind Ensemble, delivered tertiary courses in conducting, instrumental music education, and jazz, and also supported international travel and performance as a guest conductor and educator. His credits place him in performances and professional events worldwide. In 2015, Dr McWilliams retired and returned to his native home, Australia. ABODA Victoria is fortunate to secure Dr Williams as part of Summer Conducting School 2016.
On Friday 16 October, St Kevin's College Glendalough hosts ABODA Victoria in presenting a professional development event focused on effective instrumental recruitment practices for ensemble programs. This event addresses educators in orchestral and band settings where yearly recruitment practices aim to effectively present and balance the growth of the instrumental music program.

On Friday 31 October, ABODA Victoria welcomes Peter Bandy as he presents a string ensemble conducting workshop. Mr Bandy's session will addressing preparation, rehearsal, and conducting, with particular attention to the question 'Is string ensemble conducting any different?'
Dr Stephen Peterson visits us from Ithaca College (Ithaca, New York, USA) to present a workshop on Empowering Students in the Band Rehearsal. Discussion and masterclass will address rehearsal techniques supporting student empowerment and ownership in music performance and rehearsal.

Trombonist and music educator Nick Mulder joins ABODA Victoria for a professional learning event that addresses some of the fundamental challenges in directing the school jazz ensemble: repertoire selection, rehearsal techniques, and the unique roles of each instrument in the jazz ensemble.
